Beatriz Hausner

Beatriz Hausner has published several poetry collections, including Enter the Raccoon (2012), Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart (2020) and She Who Lies Above (2023). Her books have been published internationally and translated into several languages, including her native Spanish. Hausner’s translations of Latin American surrealist poets have exerted an important influence on her own writing. She was thrice President of the Literary Translators’ Association of Canada and Chair of the Public Lending Right Commission.

Patricia Aldana is Canada’s foremost children’s publisher. Since her founding of Groundwood Books in 1978, she has published close to 300 books translated from dozens of languages. She was president of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), and is the current publisher of Aldana Libros, an imprint of Greystone Kids. Aldana was president of the Association of Canadian Publishers when the Book Publishing Development Program, now known as the Canada Book Fund, was established in 1979. She was named to the Order of Canada in 2010.”for her contributions to children’s publishing in Canada and around the world.”

Karl Jirgens edited/published Rampike magazine, featuring many celebrated international artists, writers, and theorists, plus many translations. Rampike is now digitally archived (Free. Copyrights remain with contributors; Jirgens has written 5 books. His most recent (prize-winning) short-fiction collection is, The Razor’s Edge (Porcupine’s Quill 2022). Jirgens is an 8th Degree Black Belt (Grandmaster; Tae Kwon Do).

Amela Marin is a writer and translator, whose short stories and essays have been published in magazines internationally. Her novella, The Sea, explores exodus from a besieged city. She has translated poetry, short stories, essays, plays and novels, including the works of Lawrence Durrell, Saul Bellow, Susan Sontag, Bernard Malamud, Sandra Cisneros, Ferida Duraković and many others. She worked in arts administration for many years and has recently taken up food photography.

Lida Nosrati is a writer and literary translator. Her lyric essays, poems, and translations of contemporary Iranian poetry and short fiction have appeared in Words Without Borders, The Capilano Review, Matters of Feminist Practice, Nowruz Journal, PRISM, Circumference, The Book of Tehran and elsewhere. She lives in Toronto.
Susan Ouriou

Susan Ouriou is an award-winning literary translator of more than 60 works of fiction, non-fiction, children’s, and young adult literature as well as a writer of fiction and theatre. Six of her translations have been shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award for French to English Translation including Pieces of Me by Charlotte Gingras, which won that same award. Ouriou’s novel Damselfish was shortlisted for the Writer’s Guild of Alberta’s Georges Bugnet Prize and her short story “Violette Bicyclette” was the winner of the Western Canadian Magazines Fiction award. She has edited anthologies and journals was one of the co-founders of the BILTC. In 2010, she was appointed Chevalier in France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She lives in Calgary.
